Institutional presence in Colombia: the origin of a global academic vision and a partnership with an international vocation

A strategic relationship that gave rise to a global university, designed to train high-level leaders from Latin America to the world.

Colombia was a decisive source of inspiration for the birth of UNADE. In 2011, a delegation from the IOE Group —a Spanish educational organization founded in 1998 and the promoter of the American University of Europe— undertook a series of academic missions in Colombian territory, thereby consolidating the international vocation that defines our institution today.

During that period, strategic ties were established with highly prestigious universities, such as:

  • Universidad del Rosario
  • National Open and Distance University (UNAD)

In collaboration with the University of Alcalá (UAH), with which IOE was already delivering master’s programs, a pioneering initiative was proposed: the joint creation of a master’s degree in Governance with the participation of international figures. From the outset, this innovative proposal reflected the hallmark of excellence that characterizes UNADE.

Collaborations with other institutions such as the Universidad del Valle del Cauca, the Universidad Piloto and other public and private organizations revealed a shared need in the professional environment: high-level doctoral and postgraduate training, rigorous, flexible and compatible with work demands.

This is how UNADE was born, as a response to that call: a Euro-American university with a global spirit, designed for leaders, executives and professionals who aspire to the highest academic level without giving up their personal life or professional development.

UNADE Colombia: institutional and financial relationships

As part of its commitment to access to excellent higher education, UNADE maintains strategic partnerships with Colombian institutions that allow its students to finance their studies in a secure, accessible and advantageous way.

Notable agreements:

  • ICETEX: Allows Colombian applicants to finance academic programs with flexible plans.
  • National Savings Fund (FNA): Since 2013, it offers preferential conditions to its members, supporting UNADE’s educational quality.
  • BANCOLOMBIA: Provides short- and long-term financing alternatives tailored to online postgraduate and doctoral programs.
  • UNIMINUTO: Promotes academic, research and cultural collaboration between both institutions. It also includes the implementation of a scholarship program designed to facilitate access to training and professional development opportunities.
  • COTECNOVA: Fosters the academic and professional development of its community. The agreement also includes a scholarship program, consolidating a strategic partnership that promotes internationalization and access to excellent higher education.
  • Universidad del Bosque: Promotes the exchange of knowledge, students and teaching staff, and encourages collaboration on educational, scientific and social projects. Both universities share a commitment to providing comprehensive training, fostering international mobility and shared learning, consolidating internationalization and the continuous improvement of educational quality.
  • Universidad Cooperativa de Colombia: Fosters joint development in the areas of teaching, research, social outreach and extension. This agreement seeks to generate collaborative activities that benefit both institutions and promote educational innovation, with an emphasis on shared interests.
  • Universidad de Pamplona: Offers scholarships and dual-degree programs, broadening educational opportunities for students of both institutions. This agreement will also drive student and faculty mobility, promoting the exchange of knowledge, research and educational experiences, allowing students to broaden their academic and professional horizons in a global context.
  • Corporación Universitaria Remington – UNIREMINGTON: Promotes the exchange of knowledge and experiences, contributing to the academic and professional development of the students, faculty and graduates of both institutions.

Validation of studies before the National Ministry of Education (MEN)

All of UNADE’s academic programs can be submitted for validation before the MEN, in accordance with Resolution No. 010687 of October 9, 2019.

Managing the procedure is the graduate’s responsibility. UNADE, as an institution accredited to international standards, offers all the necessary guarantees to facilitate this process.

UNADE’s validation process and institutional accreditation in Colombia

In October 2022, UNADE celebrated obtaining the Institutional Accreditation of High Educational Quality, the result of a rigorous voluntary evaluation process.

This accreditation reflects its commitment to academic excellence and was granted by the Inter-Institutional Committee for the Evaluation of Higher Education (CIEES), with the backing of the CPAE and the Institutional Evaluation Committee.

Key aspects were assessed, such as:

  • Quality of teaching
  • Study plans
  • Assessment systems
  • Scientific output
  • Technological infrastructure
  • Students’ academic and professional achievements

Thanks to this achievement, UNADE positions itself as one of the first online universities to obtain this accreditation, reaffirming its leadership in distance education with international impact.
